About
By law (5 U.S.C. §8438), the G Fund rate for a month equals the average market yield, on the last business day of the prior month, of all marketable Treasury securities with more than 4 years left to maturity, rounded to the nearest 1/8 percent.
Each business evening this app reads Treasury's daily yield curve at each Treasury note's and bond's remaining maturity, weights by the amount outstanding from the Monthly Statement of the Public Debt, and rounds the result. The proxy is that unrounded average; a boundary is the halfway point where the rounded rate flips to the next eighth.
